Le Levant : visit "l'île aux arbousiers"

Have you ever heard of "arbutus island" ? The Levant is called like this because the island is populated by arbutus trees, typical mediterranean trees with little tasty fruits. This is what has contributed to its national and international renown : the island is known for having the most beautiful arbutus trees in Europe.

A rich and exceptional flora that can be visited by browsing the Regional Nature Reserve of the domain along the marked trails.

This island is accessible by boat only if you moor to the public port because the anchorage is prohibited all around the island to preserve the seabed.

Do not hesitate to contact the harbor office to know the terms and availability at the port. If the night is charged, an anchorage of a few hours or even of the day is sometimes free.

Naturism and military territory, an island in two parts

Very marked by its history, the island is still imbued with its military past.

Strategic position off the Côte d'Azur in the 19th century, Bonaparte decided to build a fortified post at the Titan lighthouse and the arbutus fort.

These two buildings still exist and today the State still uses a large part of the island as a naval military base. A large part of the island is therefore inaccessible. In reality, only the beach of the Grottes du Levant is open to the public.

The latter, however, in the domain of Heliopolis is reserved for integral naturism. Note also that if the water's edge is reserved for naturism, it is forbidden to practice integral naturism in the village and on the port of the island!
